"If God wants me to share this, then He'll bring the people to me." I hear this a lot from Catholic businesses and ministries, and I hate to break it to you but...it's just plain false. Now, that's not to say He CAN'T create a God-incidence where you just happen to bump into the exact person He's called you to serve. But more often, He calls us into cooperation with Him — which means getting up and actually taking some action. In other words, prayer isn't a marketing strategy. That doesn't mean that prayer isn't an integral part of your marketing strategy...but we can't use it as an excuse to sit around waiting for God to act when He's told us to. Jesus didn't sit around in Jerusalem waiting for the woman at the well to show up (to a place she very much would not have normally been). He didn't stay at home as a carpenter in Nazareth waiting for people to just "get it" on their own that He was the Messiah. And He certainly didn't tell the apostles to simply pray for God to bring them people to convert. He called them to action — "GO and make disciples." What does that mean? Jesus used marketing. He had a plan. And that can make us uncomfortable. "But isn't marketing just...sleazy? And full of tactics that prey on people?" Not when you market like Jesus. His version of marketing was full of love and service and truth. (Which means ours can be too.) But He also definitely didn't wing it. We see often how strategic He is with where He heads next on His journeys, going to one place instead of another. We hear how He repeats in John a multitude of times that it isn't His "hour" yet. And then when it is? It's all been prearranged and perfectly timed, lining up with all the Scripture prophecies that came before. Jesus knew who His target audience was and was not. He did market research. He talked to people's pain points, had a value ladder of "offerings" and a specific "brand" voice, and even utilized modern strategies like urgency and influencer marketing that modern-day marketers are just catching up to now. He even used the "mass media" of His day to get the word out — public teachings and signs. Which means if we want to spread the Good News He's put uniquely on our hearts through our businesses and ministries — We need to utilize these strategies, too. But how can we know what Jesus' marketing plan was? Praise God, the Gospel writers wrote it all out for us, the blueprint for Jesus' own marketing strategy. We just have to follow it. And starting next week, I'm hoping to make that even easier for you. Next Tuesday, I'll be launching my pet project, something that I've been quietly researching and preparing for over the past 6+ years. It's a course + community breaking down Jesus' exact marketing strategy and step-by-step how to implement it in your own business or ministry today. (I even dropped the name of it hidden in this email!) It's going to make your marketing take less time and make more money, while also being easier and holier (and maybe even fun). And instead of a stuffy corporate marketing class or sleazy, tactic-filled hype fest with not much depth — I've designed it to feel like a Bible study. Because I want your marketing to bring your audience AND you closer to God. Those who signed up for the waitlist will be getting pre-order access starting tomorrow. But I don't want you to have to wait a whole week until the official launch to get started on this. Because the mission God put on your heart is too important not to share ASAP! So if you haven't already, take this week to catch up on my free mini course on the basics of Catholic marketing. Or rewatch my recent webinar, the 5 Essential Things Every Catholic Business and Ministry Needs to Know to Market Like Jesus. And then take to prayer this week one thing the Lord wants you to do to promote your business or ministry this week. Because if your work leads people to God, then it's a disservice NOT to tell them about it. Which means He wants you to market it, and market it well. And then meet me back here on Tuesday for the official launch of this Jesus-focused marketing course. (Taking Monday off for Memorial Day to pray for those who did the ultimate act of love that Jesus taught us, laying down one's life for a friend.) For His greater glory, Emily |
