7 patron saints for Catholic marketing

Here's a crazy thought for a Monday afternoon:

If God called you to this business or ministry -

It's part of your sainthood journey.

That Instagram post you're totally overthinking.

Giving that person in your emails a thoughtful reply even if you're busy.

Fixing tech things on your website.

All of it. It's all part of your sainthood story.

There's no official patron saint of marketing (yet!).

But for when you need a little help, here are a few heavenly patrons to call on:

When you're struggling to make sales or don't want to sound too salesy

St. Francis De Sales

Because...obviously. He literally has sales in his name. πŸ˜‚ But he's also the patron saint of writers, so he is a great patron for when you're struck on how to word your marketing so it resonates but doesn't sound too salesy.

When you're struggling to make something look right or your ads aren't working

St. Bernardine of Siena

The patron saint of advertising and PR, St. Bernardine is known for his branding brilliance, as the one who designed the IHS symbol now commonly associated with Jesus today.

When you're having tech issues

St. Carlo Acutis

We have a saint in heaven who knows firsthand the issues of websites since he built one himself. I haven't tested it, but I bet he'd be a go-to for printers glitching at the worst possible moment too!

When you feel like you're preaching to the choir

St. Mary Magdalene

St. Mary Magdalene is sometimes referred to as "the apostle to the apostles" for being the first to announce the Good News of Christ's Resurrection to the other apostles. She can be a great reminder that even when we're talking to people we think should know our message by now...they probably don't!

When you kind of hate digital marketing

Pope St. John Paul II

In addition to spearheading the New Evangelization, Pope St. John Paul II proffered ways in which the media could be used for good to further the Good News. So when we're feeling fed up with modern marketing channels, we can turn to him to help us remember the possibilities for evangelization it allows!

When you need confidence or have imposter syndrome

St. Paul

St. Paul is best known for the vigor with which he spread the Gospel among the Gentiles after his own dramatic conversion on the road to Damascus. He could have said that he wasn't good enough because of his past or been scared of speaking a message people wouldn't like. But instead he boldly followed God's will and was arguably the most influential evangelist of all time.

When you need humility or detachment from the outcome of your work

St. John the Baptist

St. John the Baptist had the opportunity to make his preaching all about himself. He had amassed a huge following and attention. Instead? He turned everything back to Jesus. "He must increase, I must decrease." A motto we can all use in this work!

Want another crazy thought?

Someday, YOU could be a patron saint for some of these marketing tasks!

But you can only do that if you include Jesus in all of these things, even what seems to be the most mundane.

Because with Jesus, even marketing can be holy.

To all meeting in heaven someday!

For His greater glory,

Emily

P.S. Do you have a loved one whose soul you're praying for on All Souls Day today? I'd love to pray for them during our family decade of the Rosary today. Reply with their name, and I'll include them in our prayers tonight.

Specificity wins over generalization!

Loved the validation in this study from Science Says on specification in marketing, particularly in product naming. It's the oxymoron of the more specific you get, the broader your impact!

Facebook has been buzzing lately about...well, Facebook. In case you missed it, business pages are now (or soon going to) only be allowed two links per month unless you upgrade (aka pay them) for more. If I was in charge of your social media, here's how I would change our strategy as a result: Step One: First, I would scream into the void. (But seriously...it's not just you. Everything is harder to promote now than it was years ago. And upgrading to get more links is...not cheap. It's...

If I had to pick the #1 day that your bulletin actually gets read, I would pick Christmas. (I don't have any statistical data to back that up, but since I doubt CARA is going to be taking that one on any time soon, we'll go with it.) But think about it: One of the busiest days of the year, combined with lots of waiting for Mass to begin if they arrived early to get seats. They're bound to flip through your bulletin while they wait. Now here's the question: Do you think your bulletin as it is...

β€œNever buy anyone’s course,” he said. I was scrolling through Reels a few weeks ago when I came across that advice from a comedian. He was talking about how everyone has a course now, and he's been tempted to buy courses before that claim they will help him in his business, but he doesn't think they're necessary or will actually help. I squirmed for a moment when I saw that. Because, um, I sell a course. And I actually sat there and thought about it for a moment: Am I part of the problem? Is...
