It's not just you. Marketing is harder than it used to be. Facebook is now only letting business pages post two links per month unless you pay them. AI has completely changed how SEO works. You basically need a master's degree in Instagram for the algorithm show your posts to your followers. Not to mention the sheer volume of marketing content that just grows by the day. And you're over here like "I just want to tell more Catholics about what I do!" But it sometimes feels like reaching them requires a beatification-qualifying miracle. (Let alone actually getting them to take action once you do reach them.) You're not wrong. Marketing is hard. But so is holiness. And this is where we get to decide: Is the call God has placed on your heart worth going through some hard to fulfill? The answer might not always be yes. Sometimes, it can be a sign that God is asking you to place that dream down. It's a question that can help us discern what God is asking of us. But if He is asking you to persevere...then we have to meet Him with our best efforts, becoming like missionaries to find and fight for the people He's asked us to serve. We have to have the borderline-stubborn determination of saints like St. Frances Cabrini, who didn't let hard conditions or "no's" stand in the way of trying to help the people God had called her to help. She acted, and then let God do the rest, even when it seemed impossible. And that's what we have to do. Because even though it sometimes seems impossible...it is still possible to reach new Catholics with your business or ministry. Despite the platforms changing, you know what hasn't changed? The strategy underneath reaching people with your marketing, no matter the channel. Once you learn that strategy, you can apply it on any channel. So when YouTube decides to downgrade your reach or the podcast that used to send so much traffic to your site stops working, you can simply pick up that strategy and implement it elsewhere. It makes it so you aren't tied down to one particular platform. (Kind of like when Jesus would need to leave an area because people were either trying to make Him king or kill Him...He would pick up His ministry, move it elsewhere, and do the same things to reach new people, just in a different area.) That's why part 2 of the Market Like Jesus course focuses on developing your reach marketing strategy. We take everything you learned about yourself and your audience in the "Know" stage, and use that to create a process for consistently getting in front of new audiences. And we don't just stop at reaching them. We also make sure you have the marketing messaging in place to get their attention when they do come across you AND processes in place to quickly get them oriented to what you do and how you help them. Basically plotting out every single possible way someone can find out about you, and making sure you have the marketing in place to convince them to go deeper "into your world." We now have to be missionaries, seeking after the people God has called us to serve, and then still doing the work of converting them. But those people? If what you do brings them closer to God, then they're worth fighting ever-changing algorithms to find. And if you need help doing that, I'd love to show you how in Market Like Jesus. For His greater glory, Emily The course is on sale now through Thursday, so come join me and learn how to make marketing, if not easy, at least easier! Before this course I didn't feel confident with my marketing work. The secular focus on getting bigger and better results made marketing stressful and feel like a necessary, and sometimes fruitless, evil.
Just within the first month, I was blown away with the breakthroughs I received, both practical and spiritual. Thanks to the knowledge I've gained and Emily's guidance, I now know how fun, fruitful, and sanctifying marketing can be. I now see the goodness, truth, and beauty in marketing, and that's turned this once dreaded work into an exciting adventure!

Every Monday, I send out the latest musings on Catholic marketing from my position as a Catholic marketing professional, former parish employee, and regular old Catholic mom trying not to lose my mind while raising saints. Click, clack. Click, clack. My foot distractedly hit the loose metal filing cabinet knob up and down as I directed the parishioner's call. Once I was off the phone, I looked at it. "Someone should really fix that," I mused as I moved onto my next task. Each week at my shift as the night secretary for the parish office, I'd inevitably hit the loose drawer handle with my foot and think, "That's really annoying." Or pull out the drawer to put a file in and roll my eyes that no one had fixed it...
It was the SECOND paper trimmer I'd bought in a week. And it somehow still wasn't working. I sat on the floor of our apartment sobbing. My husband (perhaps just a teensy bit scared at what he'd signed up for marrying me) pulled out a pair of scissors, and we got to work, meticulously trimming the 150 wedding programs I'd designed for a client. How did I end up here? Because I didn't have a marketing plan. I was accidentally working on a new business idea at my wedding. Now before you call me...
Facebook has been buzzing lately about...well, Facebook. In case you missed it, business pages are now (or soon going to) only be allowed two links per month unless you upgrade (aka pay them) for more. If I was in charge of your parish's social media, here's how I would change our strategy as a result: Step One: First, I would scream into the void. (But seriously...it's not just you. Everything is harder to promote now than it was years ago. And upgrading to get more links is...not cheap....
